About Denver Endocrinology

At Denver Endocrinology, our doctors care for patients with a wide variety of endocrine conditions. Our specialty-trained doctors diagnose endocrine diseases, hormone disorders and gland-related illnesses. Above all else, we aim to educate our patients on their condition and empower them to receive the best treatment possible.

We also offer continuous glucose monitoring and have a close relationship with the diabetes educators at Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center (PSL). Advanced radiology services are handled by P/SL. If a surgical procedure is indicated, our endocrine specialists involve consultants specializing in your disorder.

Diabetes treatment

Diabetes is diagnosed when a patient is found to have abnormally high blood sugar.

The type of treatment depends on whether you have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes and how high your blood sugars are. Some patients are given insulin shots immediately while others are started on oral medications In some cases, your doctor may just recommend a change in diet and exercise.

Importance of glucose (blood sugar) monitoring

Glucose (blood-sugar meter) is good for testing blood sugars throughout the day, but it only tells you what your level is at that moment.

A HgA1C is a test that your endocrinologist checks every 3 to 6 months. It is a finger-stick blood test that gives an average blood sugar reading based on the last 3 months.

The American Diabetes Association recommends patients with diabetes patient maintain a HgA1C level of 7% (170 mg/dL) or less in order to prevent diabetes-related complications. A HgA1C in a person without diabetes is about 5% ( 120 mg/dL).
